Flight Delays and Cancellations Analysis
This project focuses on analyzing flight status based on data collected from different airports during the year 2015. It leverages data analytics to analyze flight status from different airports.
Achieved Goals :
The goals of this project are to:
- Better understand flight status and improve customer experience in different airports.
- Provide operational and customer-focused perspectives to enhance data-driven decisions for better customer satisfaction.
- Identify patterns in delays and cancellations will help airlines and airports optimize flight schedules and reduce downtime.
- Leverage historical data for predictive analytics to help airlines anticipate delays and cancellations.

My steps to complete this project :
The following tasks were completed:
- Download the dataset from Kaggle using this link: https://www.kaggle.com/code/abhishek211119/2015-flight-delays-and-cancellation-prediction
- Import the dataset to Power BI and use Power Query to clean and transform it before analysis.
- Build a relational model between tables.
- Create DAX Measures to enhance the data model and create new metrics to support the analysis.
- Design an interactive dashboard to show an overview of the data.
- Interpret the data to uncover insights from the analysis.
- Provide recommendations to help airlines and airports enhance their performance, reduce delays and cancellations, and improve customer satisfaction.
Required Tools for this project :
The following tools were used:
- Power Query in Power BI to clean the data.
- Power BI to analyze the data and build the dashboard.
Conclusion :
- This project has provided valuable insights into the factors influencing disruptions in air travel. Key findings highlight the most frequent causes of delays and cancellations, including weather conditions, operational issues, and airline-specific patterns.
- Trends related to time of day, seasonality, and specific airports have been identified, offering a clearer picture of when and where disruptions are most likely to occur.
- The finding from this analysis could help airlines and stakeholders implement strategies to minimize delays and improve operational efficiency, such as optimizing scheduling, enhancing communication systems, and investing in preventative measures for common disruption causes.
